Professor (Dr.) Ram Lakhan Singh joined Nilamber-Pitamber University, Medininagar, Palamu, Jharkhand as its Vice-Chancellor on 02 June 2020. He served as Professor of Biochemistry and Coordinator, Biotechnology Programme at Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, India prior to joining this assignment. He held several academic and administrative positions such as Head, Departments of Biochemistry and Environmental Science; Dean, Faculty of Science; Dean, Students’ Welfare and Director, Institute of Engineering & Technology, Member of Executive Council, Member of University Court etc. in the same University. Professor Singh is member of Executive Council of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi for the second term nominated by Hon’ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh. He is also member of the Board of Management of Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology, Gorakhpur, UP nominated by Government of Uttar Pradesh. He has 31 years of experience as teacher and 39 years as researcher. 

Professor Singh earned his Master’s degree from University of Lucknow in 1980 and PhD in 1987 from CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, India. Professor Singh joined GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand in the year 1988 as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry. He moved to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, UP as Reader in the Department of Biochemistry in 1994. In the year 2002, Professor Singh became full Professor in the same University. 

His area of research is environmental biochemistry & biotechnology and nutraceutical biochemistry. His specific interest includes:

  1. Bioremediation of textile mill effluents 
  2. Nutraceutical/antioxidant properties of fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants 
  3. Use of phytochemicals for remediation of environmental pollution related health issues; and 
  4. Assessment of Indian Ayurvedic formulations for their antioxidant/nutraceutical properties.  

Professor Singh published more than 87 research papers in journals of international repute. He has written 17 book chapters and also written/edited 6 books published by Springer, CRC and Elsevier; 3 more books are in pipeline. Professor Singh guided 25 students for their Ph.D. degree and several M.Sc. students for dissertation. He has been invited as editorial board member of several National and International journals. He is life member and has been office bearer and of several learned societies like, Society of Toxicology (India), Society of Biological Chemists (India), Indian Science Congress Association, Indian Council of Chemists and Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India). Professor Singh delivered a number of invited/expert talks and popular lectures related to nutraceuticals and environmental problems on various National and International forums. He visited Canada and US to acquire academic excellence. 

Professor Singh has been honored as Best Teacher of the Year by International Association of Lions Clubs in 1999 and has also been awarded IUTOX Senior Fellowship by International Union of Toxicology at Montreal, Canada in 2007. He has been conferred with ‘Shikshak Shree Samman’ by Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2012. Professor Singh has been admitted to the Fellowship of the Society of Toxicology, India in 2011 and Fellowship of Academy of Environmental Biology, India in 2015. He has been conferred Lifetime Achievement Award by Society of Life Sciences, India in 2018.
